  • In many ways, applied kinesiology and physical therapy may seem alike, however the approaches of treatment are quite different.

Physical therapy mainly focuses on the prescribed area of pain and focuses on using standardized tools to understand the issues and directly treat the area of pain.

Applied kinesiology typically relies on understanding the body’s pain through muscle testing and diagnostic tools.  To treat clients, kinesologists use a more holistic approach to understand the source of pain, by finding the root cause and creating a unique solution for the pain.

The tricky part about pain is that it’s almost never 100% localized to one area of the body, it’s incredibly difficult to prescribe and treat for ONE issue. Because everything is connected.

If you’re seeing a PT, oftentimes we can integrate what you learn about your movements into the sessions and work alongside your PT sessions.

  • Short answer - anything you are comfortable in. Comfortable,  loose-fitting clothing that allows for easy movement is the way to go. Anything you’d typically wear to the gym works too. Each session includes different exercises or stretches.

  • This is a difficult question to answer because everyone is a "Study of One." We cannot learn anything about you by working on someone else.

You could feel a difference after your evaluation session, or it could take several sessions to experience change. It is unpredictable and your response will be uniquely yours.

What we do know is that if you give the system back something it is missing, it tends to give indications that it likes you. This may be a functional change or a change in sensations. Which comes first is completely unique to your case.

Either way, be patient. It took a while to get here, so you must hang in there and work with us. We rely on you to provide direct and honest feedback to your kinesiologist in order to guide the next steps in the work.

  • Yes. We have numerous clients who come at a lower frequency and still experience great results. Whether it be twice a month, once every three weeks, or once a month there is absolutely a benefit.

Our kinesiologists have noticed better results over the long term with the people who come consistently at a lower frequency rather than intermittently doing a cluster of sessions and then stopping and starting again.

So it is absolutely worth it to come less often in a planned manner. We even have people who only come occasionally since they don’t live in town and still have great improvement in their situations.

  • You do not want to wait until you are in pain to come in for a session.

We want to get ahead of maintaining and improving your muscle system to move you forward.

When you come in for a session in more extreme pain it becomes more difficult to get to and resolve the root cause of your muscle dysfunction because you are at a deficit and we have to work to get you back to baseline.

This is why we encourage getting ahead of issues and scheduling regular "tune up" sessions.
